Thoughts ahead of Mont Tremblant 70.3

A few days out from my second ever 70.3, I thought I’d try to compile some of the many thoughts buzzing around in my brain.

Hopefully it’s semi-coherent.

Editor’s note: it’s fantastic.

Considering the past 6 months holistically, my initial thought is that

progress is not linear.

It definitely wasn’t for me during this 70.3 build.
And, it does not come without setbacks (or tears).

It’s not that deep,

but I think my biggest takeaway this time around is how important it is to trust the process, and to not get bogged down by the little things.

Your training is going to be interrupted by life.

It’s never going to go exactly as you planned.

You might experience minor injuries, niggles, or illness.

You might need to skip a workout (or multiple) when something comes up beyond your control.

You might need an unplanned rest day because your body is begging for it.

In the moment,
these inconveniences can feel detrimental to your training and fitness.

In the long run,
they actually don’t matter at all.

But how you deal with them does.

When you’re a week out from the race and

you’re not injured,
you’re not overly fatigued,
and you still feel fitter than you’ve ever been,

that’s when your ability to
trust the process
and see the
big picture
shows.

Instead of
trying to squeeze a missed workout
into your already hectic schedule,
you moved on to the next one.

Instead of
powering through another workout
when your body was asking for a break,
you rested.

As a result,
you reached the start line not only fit,
but healthy.
